Wisdom Teeth Removal at Kitchener Dentist Lancaster Dental

Wisdom teeth (third molars) usually come in between the ages of 17 and 25. Many people don’t have enough room in their jaw for them, so they can grow in at an angle, stay trapped under the gum (impacted) or push against neighbouring teeth. At our Kitchener office, we monitor your wisdom teeth during regular check-ups and recommend removal only when it’s the right choice for your oral health.

Signs You May Need Your Wisdom Teeth Removed

  • Pain or pressure at the back of your jaw
  • Swollen, tender or bleeding gums behind your last molars
  • Repeated infections or a bad taste around a partly erupted tooth
  • Crowding or shifting of your other teeth
  • Food getting trapped where it’s hard to clean, leading to decay
  • Cysts or damage to neighbouring teeth seen on X-rays

How We Assess Your Wisdom Teeth

We take digital X-rays, including a panoramic image, to see the position of each wisdom tooth, its roots and how close it sits to nearby teeth and nerves. We then explain your options clearly, whether that’s monitoring, removal at our office, or referral to an oral surgeon for more complex cases.

What to Expect During and After Removal

The area is fully numbed before treatment, and we offer relaxation options if you feel anxious about dental visits. Most patients go home the same day and are back to their normal routine within a few days. We’ll give you clear aftercare instructions, including how to manage swelling, what to eat and how to keep the area clean while it heals.

Wisdom Teeth FAQ

Do all wisdom teeth need to be removed?
No. If your wisdom teeth are healthy, fully erupted and easy to clean, we may simply keep an eye on them at your regular check-ups.

Is there a best age for wisdom tooth removal?
Removal is often easier in the late teens and early twenties, before the roots are fully formed, but we assess every patient individually.

How long is recovery?
Most people feel back to normal within a few days to a week. Follow your aftercare instructions and call us if you notice increasing pain, swelling or a fever.
